Mission Statement
The mission of Lamar Consolidated ISD Librarians is to create a physical and digital environment in which our students, staff, and community can strengthen their natural inquisitive nature, foster a love of reading, and serve as a collaborative resource for teachers and staff in developing and delivering powerful learning experiences across all curricular areas.
Student Checkout and Classes
The library is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Students visit the library every week for checkouts and every other week for a library lesson. They will have a library lesson or activity for 30 minutes and circulation time for 15 minutes.
Kindergarten and first grade students are permitted to checkout one book per week. Students in second, third, fourth and fifth grades may checkout two books per week. They may not checkout any books unless the previous ones are returned or renewed.
Library Activities
The library sponsors a fall book fair and a Read-A-Thon fundraiser. These events are to encourage at home reading and the proceeds are used to help to buy books and pay for special author visits and programs. In addition, the library sponsors several voluntary reading enrichment programs including the Texas Bluebonnet Reading Club (grades 3-5), the Texas 2x2 Reading Club (grades K-2), the Six Flags Six Hour Reading Club (K-5), Frost Reading Reading Incentive Program (K-5), the Book-It reading program (K-5), the Rockets Read Nation program, and the Birthday Book Club.
Volunteers
Library volunteers are an essential part of our program. They help in running the circulation desk, labeling and shelving books, which allows the librarian to devote more time to teach children the valuable skills of enjoying literature and becoming information masters. Please contact Mrs. Collins if you interested in volunteering.
